The Duncan Bridge Center (DBC), under the auspices of the Coachella Valley Bridge Foundation (CVBF), will soon be expanding its venue.  Please stay tuned for upcoming announcements!  Jan Duncan, the widow of Ray Duncan,  has stated how pround he would have been of the momentum for the DBC games in the Desert Cities bridge community.

The CVBF would like to thank all of you  for its support of its mission, not only through  attendance at games, but also through your contributions toward helping the DBC expand its operations to more games and a dedicated facility and learning center.

The Duncan Bridge Center (DBC) is thankful for the groundswell of support for our fundraising duplicate bridge games. There are more and more desert bridge players discovering the friendly evening game the DBC holds on Thursday evenings at the Mirage Inn in Rancho Mirage. The financial support of the communitiy will allow DBC to enter the next phase of its operations sooner.

Last Thursday night the DBC held an North American Pairs (NAOP) qualifying game for the bridge players in the Coachella Valley. Jim Darvey and Jane Leigh won the event with a 68.75% game and six other pairs qualified during the session and are now eligible to continue on playing at the Regional level for a chance to represent ACBL District 22 at the ACBL National Championships next year.

Many of the supporters of the Duncan Bridge Center were seen around Scottsdale this week where they are holding an ACBL Regional Bridge Tournament. Rumors are that the Coachella Valley Bridge players are doing well and representing Unit 533 well. Most of them plan to be back in the valley next week for the upcoming Club Championship game at Duncan Bridge Center’s Thursday night duplicate bridge game.

The ACBL Sanctioned duplicate bridge game will continue to be held on Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm at the Mirage Inn, located in Rancho Mirage.

The evening duplicate bridge game sponsored by the Coachella Valley Bridge foundation operating as Duncan Bridge Center is growing in popularity. Players love the accommodations at the Mirage Inn, the friendly atmosphere and the good food.

Because the game is growing in popularity, the game is able to award larger numbers of masterpoints to duplicate bridge players in the Coachella Valley who do well in the game.

Last night, for instance, Tony Hoffman and JoAnn Dobbins had a 72.32% session and were able to take home 2.45 masterpoints each in the eleven table charity game where the Foundation donated to the ACBL Educational Foundation.

The ACBL Sanctioned duplicate bridge game will continue to be held on Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm at the Mirage Inn, located in Rancho Mirage.

DUNCAN BRIDGE CENTER’S FIRST GAME A SUCCESS!

President of the CVBF, Judy McClintic, welcomed 38 players who braved the heat Wednesday evening to indulge in their favorite pastime of playing duplicate bridge and to support the launch of the DUNCAN BRIDGE CENTER’s inaugural game.

Judy’s opening remarks were heartfelt in thanking those who made the event possible:

  • Tom McCormick , volunteer game director, guided the players through 24 hands of bridge with his usual and customary skills. ·
  • Bev Hartin donated all the fixings for a great sandwich and salad buffet. ·
  • The Mirage Inn graciously provided the beautiful room and a cordial staff to host the game.
  • Most especially, the supporters who contributed just over $1000 toward the DBC’s “Bid Up to Opening” goal.

From Montana, Jan Duncan, sent a message of best wishes and success and wanted to let the attendees know that she was there “in spirit.” Congratulations to our winners and NAOP qualifying players.
